Progress in 2010

This year's project started a bit later and slower than usual, but we finished the rocks right above the ground and now working on the electric wires, etc.
今年は例年より遅めでそしてゆっくりめのスタートでしたが、土台部分に石をつけ、現在は電気系統の配線にとりかかっているところです。

October '09 #3

We thought it was going to be the last weekend for this year, but things just keep coming. The moisture of the dirt we poured inside the foundation created mold in one week! So, we have another weekend to go...

これで今年最後と喜んでいた私達ですが、なんと、土台部分に先週流し込んだ土の水分のせいでカビが発生。今週末カビキラーを持って、再度山へ向かうことになりました。。。

October '09 #2

We had the biggest accomplishment of the year this weekend. It was so big that we wanted to celebrate right away, but it was late and our bodies were already starting to ache...

日曜日の夜に作業が終わった瞬間に、みんなで歓声を上げるくらい大変な週末でした。そして、作業中は一心不乱で悲鳴も上げられないくらい。

Our challenge for this week was to put tons of dirt in the foundation (1400 sq ft).

今週末の大きな課題は、土台部分に大量の土を運び込みそれを固めること。もともと土曜日にするはずが予定がずれて日曜日になった途端、手伝いに来てくれるはずの友達の数がぐんと減り、２人だけ（注：日曜日はフットボールをテレビで観戦するアメリカ人が多いため）。

It took five of us for 4 hours to finish putting dirt in. そして、たった５人になってしまったため、この作業をなんと４時間近く続けました。

This is how it works; the digger guy pours the dirt, two of us push the dirt into two buckets from the slide, then three guys carry them and spread it all over the foundation. We couldn't even rest for a minute... Guys must have carried 70-80 buckets X 50-60LBS each, I think.

まず土をショベルカーで流し込み、外にいる２人がそれを中にいる３人のバケツの中にスコップで流し込み、彼らはそれを土台中にまく、という作業。始めは私は他の作業を割り当てられましたが、人員不足でこのスコップ係に。ケヴィンはバケツ係になり、１杯４０キロはあるだろうと思われるバケツを軽く７−８０杯は運んだ計算。

It was dark when we started the last task. 土を固める作業をする頃は、とっぷり陽も暮れ。。。寒くて辛かった。

So, the foundation used to look like this became like the picture below. 解りにくいですが、こんなだった土台部分が↓のようになったというわけです。みんな体がボロボロ。

Now we see the snow on top of the mountain. 山も雪化粧。

Guys are still working on the sidings this week. It looks a lot more difficult with angles. 今週もサイディングの続きです。角度があるところなので難航。



They are so comfortable with the height, but I hate watching them! 高い場所にいるので、見ている方が怖い。

All the siding in the front are done! 正面のサイディングが全部完成しました。

September '09 #3

It was still in the middle of the fall color season up in the 11,000 feet. 3300m地点は、紅葉（黄葉？）のまっただ中でした。

Our tasks for this weekend was to put the siding where the "Tyvek " is.　私たちの今週末の課題は"Tyvek "と書かれた白い部分にサイディングをつけること。

... and we are done with the first floor!１階部分が終わりました。

It looks great!

We decided to use metal for some parts. it will rust as it ages and it will add a rustic mining flavor to our cabin.　部分的にメタルを使うことにしました。これは年々錆びる素材なので、だんだん味が出て来るはずです。

We have put handles to all the doors and have been working with caulking -the cabin is much warmer now.　ドアにハンドルが付きキャビン中の隙間も石膏のようなもので埋めていっているので、キャビンの中はぐんと温かくなりました。

Kim and Dave have worked on some electrical stuff. What a detailed work!　キムとデイヴが電気系統もやってくれています。デイヴの知識もすごいけど、キムの板一枚ずつ穴を開ける作業も細かい。

The roof is looking great too.

Update for summer '09

As I've been in Japan almost for two months (and I have our camera with me!), I hadn't updated this blog for this summer, but guys have been working on it!　私がカメラを持って日本に来ているのでずっとこのブログを更新していませんでしたが、６月からフォード、デイヴ、キム、ケヴィンの４人は仕事をしています。

Now we have most of the windows installed!　殆どの窓が入りました！

I haven't seen it since last November but it looks like a palace for me. I can't wait to see it for myslef in a couple of weeks after I'm back in Colorado!　私は昨年の１１月の状態から見ていないのですが、日本の私のもとに送られて来た写真を見て驚き。早くこの目で実物を見たいものです。

Week #20 - the final week for this year

They finished the roofing completely. Beautifully done!　屋根がすべて終わりました！

They sealed everything, even around the log in the triangle shaped area. (It sounds like it was a really tough job.)　これでキャビンは冬に向けて密封されました。（丸太の周りが特に大変だったらしい。）

Thanks all who came up and helped us this year! Look forward to having you next summer - either for a stay or more work ?!　

Week #19

They have just a little bit left to finish the project for this season. Last chance to come up and see our property this coming Saturday if you haven't see it yet!

Week #17 & 18

These pictures are actualy from last weekend (#17) and Kevin forgot to take his camera today, so these might be the last photos of this year.

They finished installing all the skylights and one side of the roofing last week and they are finishing up the rest now. This weekend should be the last weekend of hard work and we are so looking forward to having some weekends off and socialize with our friends before the ski season starts! We haven't even been going out on Friday nights either as we had to go to bed early to get ready for the weekends!　（日本語は一番下です）

実はこれらは先週末の写真なのですが、今朝ケヴィンがカメラを持っていくのを忘れたため、これが今年最後の写真になるかもしれません。

先週末は残りのスカイライト３つを無事取り付け、屋根の半分側を終えました。今週残り半分を終わらせば、これで晴れて今年の力仕事はおしまい。ケヴィンは週末休みがほとんどなかったので（どうやって生きているのだか・・・）、これでスキーシーズンが始まるまでの１ヶ月程、のんびりしたり友達に会ったりするのが楽しみです。ここ何ヶ月間、週末に備えて金曜日の夜も家でおとなしくしていた私達。がんばりました。

Week #16

Sorry - it took me so long to update this blog. Guys worked on sealing upstairs, installing one of the four skylights and roofing during　the last weekend. However, they had to quit roofing in the afternoon on Saturday due to the snow. 先週末の仕事は、２階部分を板で閉じる、天窓の取り付け（合計４つある）、そして屋根の工事。雪のため屋根は途中で中止し、それ以外のことに励んだようです。


Now they are sealing upstairs. Because of the shapes (triangles, logs, etc.) it's taking them extra time to cut out the boards.２階部分の封印ですが、三角形部分やログがあって形が複雑なため、板をその形に切り抜くのに時間がかかった模様。

Week #15

It started snowing finally and a good news is we are close to finish sealing the cabin!ついに雪が降り始めました。とりあえず、本格的な冬到来の前に開いているいるところはふさげそうです。

Dave and Ford were up there since Friday working on the ice barrier on the roof - they laid the black sheet while they were hanging with their harness on. 共同オーナーの友人２人は金曜日からまた山篭り。（ケヴィンは土曜日の朝に行き、私は用事があり日曜日に日帰りで行きました。）友人２人はハーネスをつけて屋根にアイス･バリアという黒いゴムのようなシート張りに専念。

Lots of our friends came up to help us this weekend as we had so much to do before snow gets too deep to get to the property. 今週末はたくさん友人が手伝いに来てくれました。冬になる前にやらなければならないことが山積み。とにかく屋根を完成させて、穴をふさがないと。

They carried a lot of logs that we don't need till next summer to the basement. Thanks everyone for your help! 来年の夏まで不要なログを地下室へ。

Dave and Ford continue to work on the roof. 日曜日の午後も２人は屋根に専念。

the little openings you see on the top in the middle.真ん中の上の方の穴です。

Pat is installing one of four windows we broght from the shack. We decided to wait to order the windows till next summer but these temporary windows made our cabin very homy.窓をオーダーするのは来年の夏まで待つことにしました。その代わりに掘っ立て小屋から４つ窓を取り外して使うことに。おかげで家らしくなりました。

When we removed the windows from the shack, we also brought the kitchen stuff into the cabin. Now we can cook and we don't have to camp any more - we can sleep in our cabin!窓を取り外して小屋が使えなくなったので、中身も一緒に移動。これでキャビンで料理ができるようになり、中で寝られるようにもなったので、０度以下の気温でキャンプをしなくてよくなったわけです。やったー。

It started snowing around 2pm on Sunday. 日曜日の午後２時ごろ、ついに雪が降り始めました。

Kim is sealing one of the last cut-outs to get ready for a long winter.残り少ない穴をふさいでいるところ。

3pm - it's quickly accumulating!３時－あっという間に積もり始めました。

4pm - so glad to have windows in!４時－窓が入って本当によかった！
