Our challenge for this week was to put tons of dirt in the foundation (1400 sq ft). 今週末の大きな課題は、土台部分に大量の土を運び込みそれを固めること。もともと土曜日にするはずが予定がずれて日曜日になった途端、手伝いに来てくれるはずの友達の数がぐんと減り、２人だけ（注：日曜日はフットボールをテレビで観戦するアメリカ人が多いため）。
It took five of us for 4 hours to finish putting dirt in. そして、たった５人になってしまったため、この作業をなんと４時間近く続けました。
This is how it works; the digger guy pours the dirt, two of us push the dirt into two buckets from the slide, then three guys carry them and spread it all over the foundation. We couldn't even rest for a minute... Guys must have carried 70-80 buckets X 50-60LBS each, I think.
まず土をショベルカーで流し込み、外にいる２人がそれを中にいる３人のバケツの中にスコップで流し込み、彼らはそれを土台中にまく、という作業。始めは私は他の作業を割り当てられましたが、人員不足でこのスコップ係に。ケヴィンはバケツ係になり、１杯４０キロはあるだろうと思われるバケツを軽く７−８０杯は運んだ計算。
It was dark when we started the last task. 土を固める作業をする頃は、とっぷり陽も暮れ。。。寒くて辛かった。
So, the foundation used to look like this became like the picture below. 解りにくいですが、こんなだった土台部分が↓のようになったというわけです。みんな体がボロボロ。
