Fall 2011

On October 4, I went up to the cabin for the first time since October, 2010 to see the progress and to catch some colors before the leaves fell. It was the Kalina's very first visit as well!

They have put insolation, drywall, done duct work and installed furnace. It is looking and feeling good!

Now we have stairs too!

Wanna ride?

The rain just starting as we left the site turned into snow.

The 4th summer - 2011

I didn't get to update this blog last year season (I may add some photos later though) but the project is still going. It is the forth summer since we started and the guys are up there every weekend. They put the railings and stained the exterior during the last weekend. I can't wait to see it for myself!

Progress in 2010

This year's project started a bit later and slower than usual, but we finished the rocks right above the ground and now working on the electric wires, etc.

Looking great!

Here comes "astronaut" Kevin...

He's putting some protecters.

We have another month to go before this are is completely covered with snow.

October '09 #3

We thought it was going to be the last weekend for this year, but things just keep coming. The moisture of the dirt we poured inside the foundation created mold in one week! So, we have another weekend to go...

October '09 #2

We had the biggest accomplishment of the year this weekend. It was so big that we wanted to celebrate right away, but it was late and our bodies were already starting to ache...

Our challenge for this week was to put tons of dirt in the foundation (1400 sq ft).

It took five of us for 4 hours to finish putting dirt in.

This is how it works; the digger guy pours the dirt, two of us push the dirt into two buckets from the slide, then three guys carry them and spread it all over the foundation. We couldn't even rest for a minute... Guys must have carried 70-80 buckets X 50-60LBS each, I think.

It was dark when we started the last task.

So, the foundation used to look like this became like the picture below.

Great job, guys! And BIG thanks to Pat and Mike! You really saved us.

All the sidings are done. Looking good!

September '09 #4

Now we see the snow on top of the mountain.

Guys are still working on the sidings this week. It looks a lot more difficult with angles.

They are so comfortable with the height, but I hate watching them!

All the siding in the front are done!

September '09 #3

It was still in the middle of the fall color season up in the 11,000 feet. 3300m

Our tasks for this weekend was to put the siding where the "Tyvek " is.

... and we are done with the first floor!1階部分が終わりました。

It looks great!

We decided to use metal for some parts. it will rust as it ages and it will add a rustic mining flavor to our cabin.

We have put handles to all the doors and have been working with caulking -the cabin is much warmer now.

Kim and Dave have worked on some electrical stuff. What a detailed work!

The roof is looking great too.
